What I Wish I Did Differently | The Day-Of Coordinator

On today’s installment of “What I Wish I Did Differently,” we’re touching on a topic we’ve talked about before. Click here to catch up! We took a poll from brides asking what they would do differently with their wedding, and the answer we received more than any, was that they had at least hired a day-of coordinator.

Friend Vs. Professional

Our last blog post about the coordinator gave several suggestions for determining if hiring a coordinator is the best decision for you. We recommended that if you absolutely cannot afford a professional coordinator without sacrificing one of your top 5 highest priorities, then find a trusted friend (not family member) to help coordinate on the day of your wedding. A few of the ladies who responded to the poll said to never use a friend, but to only hire a professional! We totally see both sides of this. As mentioned in our last post, we had no choice but to ask a family friend to step in as our day-of coordinator when our original coordinator had to withdraw from her duties. Our friend was one of the most qualified people for that job you could possibly find, though. It’s so very important that you are wise and intentional about who you ask to help on your day. They need to be someone of good character and integrity, punctuality and organization, know how to be kind-hearted yet firm, and ORGANIZED!

If your budget allows, though, a day-of coordinator will rock.your.world. The peace that he/she will give you on your wedding day is priceless. You and everyone special to you can relax and relish in the beauty of the day, your photographers can focus better on their job, and the day will (most likely) stay on time.

WARNING!

Be sure, be sure, be sure that you are extremely clear on what your day-of coordinator includes in their services. If you aren’t sure what questions to ask, or how to know what they don’t include, ask your photographers! Different professionals offer different packages, A La Carte, etc. so make sure you know exactly what you’re getting.

We are 100% pro-coordinator! Every bride’s situation is different, so it will look different for everyone, but we never advise doing it all yourself. And as always, if you’re having a difficult time deciding whether or not to hire someone, or don’t know who to hire, just ask your photographers 🙂
