The Getting Ready Room

Happy Wednesday!

Why does it matter what the bride’s and groom’s getting ready rooms look like? Who cares, anyway? That’s a great question, we’re glad you asked!

Because we believe in telling the whole story, from start to finish, we always photograph the bride and the groom getting ready on the day of their wedding. Why? Because those moments with their loved ones, those moments with their best friends, those emotions… they will never happen again. You have prepared for this day not only since the day he asked you to marry him, but your whole life. It’s a BIG deal!

Most likely, you have put a lot thought, energy and money into making your ceremony and reception beautiful and true to who you are as a couple. They are part of your story. In our opinion, the getting ready rooms are just as much of a part of that story! We have a few tips for choosing where to get ready and what to keep in mind!

Distance to the Venue

We recommend getting ready as close to your ceremony venue as possible, if not actually at the venue. Your day will be wonderful, but also exhausting, so the less drive time the better.

Light

If you have stood in front of our cameras before, you know how much we preach about light! And you’ve seen the results of it, too! An ideal getting ready room has ample natural light- the more windows the better, but at least one large window at minimum. Sometimes though, as seen in the example photos, we get super lucky and have INCREDIBLE light without one single window! This wedding was the epitome of the exception 🙂

Mood

Remember, you are telling a story, so if your wedding is full of beautiful shades of pink and coral, with gold accents and touches of ivory and then you get ready in a room with 1970’s wallpaper and every shade of purple, it is going to mess up the flow. The more neutral, the better. White or light colored walls, simple furnishings and décor, and plenty of space is ideal.

Keep it Clean!

Let’s face it, girls are messy! Especially on a day like this! That is totally okay! Keep in mind, though, that clutter is distracting from the story, so do your best to keep the room tidy, or at least keep the clutter away from the main light source (windows). But don’t worry, we’re also professional getting-ready-room-tidy-uppers, so we will do our part to ensure that there are no major distractions.
